Last night United just did not turn up for whatever reason. Villarreal are a well organised team, well managed (so congrats to them on winning their first ever major trophy) but we should have had enough to beat them.

Unfortunately most of our players didn’t perform – we could not get going. Not for the first time this season. McTominey was our best player and looked like he wanted it. Cavani was good too although I think maybe tired and was less influential later on in the game.

I think its clear with Ole not making sub till the 100th minute, he does not trust much of his squad. I think it would have been wise thing to sub in Henderson as De Gea has awful penalty saving record. And last night never looked like saving one.

I have seen that people have been blaming De Gea but the game should never have got to a penalty shootout – or even extra time. And certainly can’t blame him for missing a penalty as that’s not his job. (The overall quality of penalties were brilliant!).

(Unfortunateky, but not surprisingly, I have seen that some United players have been sent racist abuse via social media. Sadly some things never change. I have seen that Rashford received abuse and he has commented on it, and I think Fred too. And probably others ☹️)

Too often this season we have relied on individual moments.

United likely to sign players in the Summer and strengthen the team/squad. But signing players alone won’t solve issues such as mentality where we need to concede first, struggle at home and always conceding at set pieces.

I think though, overall it has been a progression since Ole was manager. From 4th, then 3rd and now 2nd in league and finally getting to a final. You could argue that the PL quality was not that good this season and in another season, Liverpool would do better for example.

But now its time to think about the Euros and then the 21/22 season will be here before you know it. Hopefully United can go one step further and finish 1st in league. And maybe win a cup now that we’ve been to a final.

As I said, its not just a case of spending millions to fix problem but spending wisely and on right players is good direction. I think we need a RW, DM, CB and striker.
